The connecting element for the installation of valves in a gas line consists of a two-section pipe with one end having a conventional pipe connector(6), and the separating point being a releasable lockable plug-in connector. The plug-in connector consists of a connecting sleeve(3), insert(4) with a sealing ring and at least one locking pin(11) to lock the insert in the sleeve. An independent claim is included for a functional unit consisting of a gas pressure regulator and gas meter(2) which incorporates the proposed connecting element.
