Process for heat treating flexible strip-like copper indium diselenide solar cells comprises feeding thermal energy to the substrate in a protective gas atmosphere in a narrow limited space by infrared radiation of the non-coated side of the substrate. The space above copper indium diselenide layer of the cells is separately heated. An independent claim is also included for a heat treatment furnace for carrying out the process comprising two flat transparent molded parts (3, 4) forming a space for the substrate (1); an inlet for a protective gas; and infrared lamps (7, 8) above and/or below each molded part.
