The connector comprises two connectable parts (12,14). A lever (18) is provided for operating a slider (16), the lever being coupled via the slider to the second part (14) of the connector so that when the lever is pivoted, the second part is displaced between a separating position and a connecting position. The pivot axis (S) of the lever lies approximately parallel to the insertion axis (X) of the connector. The lever may be coupled to the slider via a pin-and-slot (22,24) arrangement.
