A process for decontaminating radioactively contaminated components or metallic members using water, comprises directing one or more jets of water onto the surface of the component, in a closed system. The water pressure is greater than 100 Mpa. The jet(s) mobilise and release the radionuclides. The water is collected using reduced pressure, and is then cleansed. The water can contain dissolving and/or oxidising agents.
