An apparatus (10) for perforating a cigarette (34) comprises a torus-shaped body (12) having an aperture (13) therethrough and a pair of spring-loaded reciprocating pins (18, 20) disposed within respective bores (14, 16) oriented in a linearly opposing relationship along a common diameter of the aperture (13). The reciprocating pins (18, 20) are pointed at their inward ends (19, 21) and are held in retracted positions with their respective bores (14, 16) until an external pressure, applied by the user's fingers, for example, is exerted on the distal ends (53) of the reciprocating pins (18, 20), causing them to move inward toward each other and to pierce the outer covering of a cigarette (34) inserted within the aperture (13). The reciprocating pins (18, 20) may be operated together to simultaneously perforate opposite sides of the cigarette (34) which is inserted within the aperture (13) of the cigarette perforator (10).
