A device (10) for controlling the tilt function of a lifting mast (11), for a fork-lift truck (12) is disclosed, whereby a double-acting working cylinder (16), activating the lifting mast (11), is operated in a closed regulating circuit (55) on tilting. A setpoint generator (25) for the speed of tilt cooperates with control electronics (23), which obtain a measured value of tilt speed from a position sensor (27) and hence control an electromagnetically-operated distribution valve, such that any deviations are controlled out. The run-off control edge (42) in the distribution valve (21) is used for control of the volume flow with a driving load, such that complex pilot valves are not necessary.
