The system has a collection table (T1) for returned bottles (P) with guide parts (12a1, 12a2) on both sides of and close to an input gate (V1) forming a loop (S) of a band (H) for stabilizing the entry of the bottles on to the collection table. The guide elements are also preferably on both sides of a conveyor belt and the input gate is also the output gate for the bottles from the automatic bottle return machine. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of handling returned bottles.
