The invention relates to an expansion dowel (10), comprising an expansion screw (14) which is enclosed in a dowel sleeve (12). According to the invention, the thread (30) of the screw is saw-toothed and a rear part (16) of the dowel sleeve (12) is axially expandable. When the expansion dowel (10) is impinged upon axially, the expansion screw (14) is displaced axially in the sleeve (12) of the dowel and the thread (30) of the screw expands the sleeve (12). The expansion dowel (10) can be post-expanded when a bore hole is widened. Another advantage of the invention is that the expansion dowel (10) is driven in without rotation of the expansion screw (14).
