[Also in Divisions C2 and C5] A process for the purification of non-ionic organic compounds and the separation of non-ionic organic vapour or liquid mixtures which comprises bringing the liquid or vapours into contact with a substantially-anhydrous, macroporous, ion-exchange resin to separate the more polar constituents from the less polar constituents. Particulars are given of the type, forim and surface area of the resins used. Cation-exchange resins are preferred. In one example, using the K+ form of a microporous polyvinylaromatic sulphonate polymer, acetone, n-butyl ether and methanol were strongly absorbed in vapour form at ,140‹C, while nhexane, n-heptane, ethyl ether, benzene and piperylene were unabsorbed. Traces of acetylene or phenol may also be removed from air. |
