An active organic EL device comprises an organic EL element containing an organic luminescence medium between an upper electrode and a lower electrode, and thin-film transistors for driving the organic EL element. The light emitted from the organic EL element passes through the upper electrode, which includes a main electrode consisting of transparent conductor, and an auxiliary electrode consisting of low-resistance material. This arrangement provides an increased aperture ratio. If the arrangement is adapted to pass light through the upper electrode, the surface resistance of the upper electrode can be reduced, resulting display of high and uniform brightness. |
