(R)-2-OCTANOL DEHYDROGENASE, PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE ENZYME, DNA ENCODING THE ENZYME AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ALCOHOL BY USING THE SAME

(R)-2-Octanol dehydrogenase catalyzing the oxidation/reduction reaction proceeding with NAD+(NADH) serving as a coenzyme. This enzyme can be obtained by microorganisms belonging to the genera (Pichia, Candida, Ogataea), etc. It is possible to produce alcohols, in particular, (S)-4-halo-3-hydroxybutyric acid ester and (R)-propoxybenzene derivatives by reducing ketones with the use of this (R)-2-octanol dehydrogenase. Moreover, this (R)-2-octanol dehydrogenase is excellent in activity and stereoselectivity.
