The camshaft is produced from a tube, which is subjected to an internal high pressure forming process. Separately produced support rings, which conform to cam contour, hardness, strength and anti-wear characteristics, are placed in a forming tool together with the tube. Axial forces and a medium expand the tube, and the rings are fastened positively and non-positively to the tube. Bearing, drive, and control elements are produced at the ends by a plasticising process.
