The invention relates to methods and devices for verifying the authenticity of printed objects, which are printed with a safety ink and which are, for example, bank notes, security documents, identification documents or documents of monetary value. The verification of authenticity is carried out by measuring, in particular, reflected or transmitted light issued from an object to be verified. In order to ensure a particularly reliable verification of authenticity, the light issued from the object to be verified is detected in spectral ranges located outside a visible spectral range. In order to obtain a user-friendly and reliable verification of authenticity, the light issued from the object is detected at several locations on the object in at least two selected spectral ranges, and a series of measurements is generated for each spectral range. Two series of measurements are adapted to one other and the verification of authenticity is subsequently carried out by comparing both series of measurements that are adapted to one other.
