PURPOSE: An auto tracking device of a CCD camera is provided to be capable of causing the CCD camera to automatically track a moving object by detecting the motion coordinate of the object and driving a motor in corresponding to the movement distance of the object. CONSTITUTION: A vertical synchronous detector(6) detects a vertical synchronous signal from a combined image signal supplied to a monitor(5). A horizontal synchronous detector(7) detects a horizontal synchronous signal from the combined image signal. The first image detector(8) detects a current output image signal from the combined image signal. A delayer(9) delays the combined image signal for a constant time. The second image detector(10) detects an image signal of previous state from the combined image signal delayed by the delayer. A motion position detector(11) detects the motion position of an object comparing a current image signal and a previous image signal, and detects an X-Y coordinate corresponding to the detected motion position from the horizontal and vertical synchronous signals. A controller(12) drives the CCD camera to track the object in accordance with calculated results of X-Y coordinate variance. A line sensor(13) senses the line short status of the CCD camera(1). An alarm generator(14) generates an alarm signal when the line short is sensed.
