PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating composition hardly generating a bad effect to the human body, capable of being applied thinly and uniformly, and forming a coated membrane having an excellent ultraviolet light-blocking performance and a high strength, and without generating a bleed. SOLUTION: This aqueous coating composition contains (A) 3-50 mass % acrylic copolymer, (B) >=20 mass % water, (C) >=3 mass % hydrophilic solvent, (D) a specific amount of ammonia and/or an amine compound and (E) a specific amount of epoxy compound having >=500 epoxy equivalent, and the above- mentioned acrylic copolymer is a copolymer obtained from a monomer mixture containing (a) an ultraviolet light-absorbing monomer having a specific chemical structure and an acrylic acid ester and/or a methacrylic acid ester other than the above monomer and (b) a carboxyl group-containing vinyl monomer selected from acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and anα,β-unsaturated-β-carboxyl carboxylic acid.
