PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for treating an organic substance in which improvement is performed in a deodorizing mechanism of exhaust gas. SOLUTION: The device for treating an organic substance is equipped with a treatment tank 1, in which the carrier of microorganisms decomposing an organic substance is housed and the organic substance such as charged garbage is decomposed and treated, with a deodorizing mechanism of exhaust gas, in which a heater 62 is arranged in the passage A of exhaust gas for discharging exhaust gas sent from the treatment tank 1 to the outside and exhaust gas discharged from the treatment tank 1 is heated by the heater 62 and deodorized, and with a wind direction plate 61 for directing the wind direction of exhaust gas discharged from the treatment tank 1 to the face of the heater in coincidence with the shape of the heater 62. Further, the device for treating an organic substance is equipped with a fan 68 on the downstream side from the heater 62 in the passage A of exhaust gas and with a shielding plate 69 for shielding exhaust gas heated by the heater 62 from colliding with the motor part in the center of the fan 68.
