A system for assessing subjects for inadequate visual attention capa- bilities presents a sequence of display screens to the subject on a conven- tional computer monitor ( 16). The dis- play screens include a foveal target (26) and a peripheral target (30), and may additionally include distractor el- ements (34) around the peripheral tar- get. The display time for the display is varied either as a function of the re- sponses of the subject or in a prepro- grammed manner. The responses are evaluated for accuracy, and are then used to generate a measurement which is used to assess the subject for ade- quate visual attention capabilities.
