PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the height dimension of a hoistway, to increase the workability of installation, maintenance, and inspection operations, and to facilitate the operation for a hoist when a car stops between story floors. SOLUTION: The hoist 12 is disposed between the side wall of a hoistway 1 and the lift area of a car 8, an opening part 2a is provided in a ceiling part 2, and return pulleys 6 and 7 are disposed in an area including the space in the opening part 2a and the space thereabove. The hoist 12 is disposed near the height position of a platform floor.
