PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper stain preventing device for an color ink jet printer, allowing the compact construction of a paper discharge tray and improving stacking performance without giving bad influence on an ink carriage and the grade of an image. SOLUTION: The device having a paper discharge tray 4 for receiving sheets of recording paper P discharged in a face-up condition from a cabinet in sequence comprises displacement members 61, 61 displaceable upward provided on both right and left sides of the discharge tray and a driving mechanism for displacing the displacement members vertically. The recording paper after first discharged is held in a curved condition at the displacement positions of the displacement members so that both tight and left end sides Pa, Pa are located on the upper side in view from its discharging direction, while the recording paper is cancelled from the curved condition to be received in a flat condition when the displacement members are reset from the displacement positions to non-displacement positions. The following recording paper discharged is received by both right and left end sides of the preceding recording paper located on the upper side of the displacement positions of the displacement members to avoid the contact the following recoding paper with an image formed portion of the preceding recording paper.
