A winding and hand setting control for a watch comprises a crown 1, by means of which the control can be placed in an operative position in which the watch mechanism can be actuated, or in a closed position in which a waterproof joint 15 is axially compressed. Waterproof seals 12, 13 are placed between a pendant 2 and a stem holder 9, the stem holder having a squared portion 10 which is a sliding fit in an aperture in a socket 8. In the closed position, a bayonet joint 3, 4 locks the crown on the pendant but in the winding position projections 6 on the crown engage grooves 7 on the socket so that the socket and therefore the stem holder can be rotated by the crown. The crown may be further pulled out to a hand setting position in which the projections 6 engage a ring 16 so that the socket lifts the stem holder into the hand setting position. In a modification, the projections and grooves on the crown and the socket respectively are permanently enmeshed and the two joints 13, 15 are replaced by a single joint. |
