PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing fine powdery preparation containing carotenoid especially β-carotene, and having <10μm, especially<1μm particle diameter. SOLUTION: This method for preparing fine powdery preparation containing the carotenoid, especially the β-carotene is characterized is that (a-1) the carotenoid is dissolved in dimethyl ether under a high-pressure and high-temperature condition; (a-2) the solution formed thus is flashed in an expanding device to decompress the solution; and (a-3) the fine powdery solid particles formed at the time of the expansion are separated from the discharged dimethyl ether.
