摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly distribute residual stress from the surface of a torque sensor shaft 1 to a specified depth and to improve eveness of residual stress distribution. SOLUTION: In this surface machining method, shot peening is applied to the surface of the torque sensor shaft 1 three times in regular succession with three kinds of projection materials 2, 3, 4. The spherical diameters of three kinds of projection materials 2, 3, 4 are the same with respective different specific gravities. Shot peening is applied to the surface of the torque sensor shaft 1 first with the projection material 2 made of hard metal with the largest specific gravity, then with the projection material 3 made of iron with smaller specific gravity, and finally with the projection material 4 made of ceramics with the smallest specific gravity.
