PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice transplanter which can form small holes on the surface of a paddy field by the use of planting tines to suitably plant seedlings without disarranging the postures of the seedlings and without bringing down the seedlings, even when the intrarow spacing of the seedlings is largely changed. SOLUTION: This transplanter provided with a planting mechanism 18 having a planting tine 28 which is circulated on a longitudinally long tine tip circulation locus P ranged from the lower end of a seedling carriage 16 to the surface of the paddy field T, is characterized by disposing an irregular motion transmission mechanism in a transmission system toward the planting mechanism 18 and furthermore setting the speed of a planting process for planting a taken seedling on the surface T of the paddy field at a larger speed than the speed of the downward movement process of the planting tine 28 for taking out the seedling from the seedling carriage 16 to the surface T of the paddy field.
