PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spiral type membrane modules which allows easy loading of spiral type membrane elements, is capable of assuring flow passages between the outer peripheral parts of the spiral type membrane elements and the inner peripheral surface of a pressure resistant container, may be decreased in cost, is easy to wash and has high reliability. SOLUTION: The spiral type membrane module is constituted by loading the spiral type membrane elements 1 into the pressure resistant container 100. The spiral type membrane elements 1 are constituted by coating the spiral membrane elements, which are formed by winding independent or continuous envelope-like membranes around the outer peripheral surfaces of water collecting pipes 2 via raw water spacers, with separation membranes and further coating these membranes with outer peripheral part flow passage materials. Holding plates 200 of a polyhedral shape which abut on the inner peripheral surface of the pressure resistance container 100 and have plural hole parts are mounted at both ends of the spiral type membrane elements 1.
