摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective film for a polarizing plate capable of further enhancing the field angle of a vertical alignment type liquid crystal display apparatus and having a large retardation value in its thickness direction even if the film is thin. SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing a cellulose ester film by a solution casting film forming method, cellulose ester having an acyl group being an acetyl group and/or a propionyl group and containing 5 mass % or more of a hot water soluble component is brought into contact with a non-solvent to be reduced in the content of the hot water soluble component and this cellulose ester, of which the hot water soluble component is reduced, is used to manufacture the cellulose ester film containing below 5 mass % of the hot water soluble component according to the solution casting film forming method.
