PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boron nitride sintered body having low density and high strength. SOLUTION: This boron nitride sintered body is a sintered body obtained from a green body which consists essentially of powdery boron nitride and also contains 2-9% powdery magnesium oxide, and correlation of density (g/cm3) with flexural strength (MPa) of the sintered body falls within an area enclosed by four line segments AB, BC, CD and DA in an X-Y diagram representing this correlation, wherein: A is a point (1.75, 65); B is a point (1.55, 35); C is a point (1.55, 20); D is a point (1.75, 50); the X-axis of the X-Y diagram represents sintered body density; and the Y-axis represents sintered body flexural strength. |
