PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stabilizing unsaturated quaternary ammonium salts, capable of preventing their deterioration such as coloring or polymerization in their production, transportation or storage and increasing their stability without injuring their polymerizability. SOLUTION: This method comprises adding an alkylenephosponic acid-based metalic sequestering agent and a polymerization inhibitor to an unsaturated quaternary ammonium salt of the general formula 1 (R1 is H or methyl; A is oxygen or NH; B is a 2-4C alkylene; R2 and R3 are each a 1-4C alkyl independently; R4 is a 1-18C alkyl or benzyl; and X- is Cl, Br or an ion of methylsulfuric acid, ethylsulfuric acid or toluenesulfonic acid).
