PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tumble preventive device for wheelchair, by which a tumble preventive bar can be easily housed by an operation with a foot only by an attendant. SOLUTION: The tumble preventive bar 18 which extends backward from the rear section of the chair body is provided. Then, one end of the tumble preventive bar 18 is turnably supported with an approximately vertical direction as the axial center, and the tumble preventive bar 18 is made switchable between a tumble preventive functional location and a housed location for this tumble preventive device for wheelchair. In such a tumble preventive device, fixing means (a plate spring 28, a pin 29, engaging holes 30 and 31) and a releasing means (a releasing lever 34) are provided. The fixing means fixe the tumble preventive bar 18 at the tumble preventive functional location. The releasing means releases the fixation of the tumble preventive bar 18 by the fixing means, by an operation in approximately the same direction as the turning in the direction to the housing location of the tumble preventive bar 18. Thus, by operating the releasing means in approximately the same direction as the turning in the direction to the housing location of the tumble preventive bar 18, the fixation of the tumble preventive bar 18 by the fixing means can be released, and the tumble preventive bar can be easily housed by an operation with a foot only by an attendant.
