In a technique of forming a bar (41) of a bar code (40) on print media by a printing device having a plurality of colorants, each of the individual bars (41) having a leading edge (53) and a trailing edge (55) that help to define a central region (54) of the bar (41), the relative locations of the leading edge (53) and trailing edge (55) are determined and a first colorant, usually black, is deposited at the leading edge (53). A composite of the first colorant, and the other printhead colorants, are deposited in the central region (54) while the first colorant is deposited at the trailing edge (55). A bar (41) of a bar code (40) produced by this technique has a clearly defined leading and trailing edge (53, 55) for bar code readers to measure while the central region (54) of the bar (41) includes a composite of colorants. <IMAGE> |
