PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester which gives hollow molded articles, especially small hollow articles, sheet-like articles and oriented films having excellent transparency and heat-resistant dimensional stability, and containers and packaging materials for the articles, and to provide a molded article comprising the polyester film. SOLUTION: This polyester produced in the presence of a germanium compound as a catalyst, characterized by containing a compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of Al, Si, Fe, Sr, Zr, Sn, W and Pb in an element amount of 0.001 to 0.5 mol.% based on the acid component of the polyester and having a cyclic trimer increase amount of <=0.30 wt.%, when melted at a temperature of 290 deg.C for 60 min.
