METHOD FOR PRODUCING 2(3)-CYCLOPENTADECEN-1-ONE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial method for the production of 2(3)- cyclopentadecen-1-one important as an intermediate for the industrical production of muscone known as a fragrant component of musk in high yield at a low cost using easily available raw material and catalyst by a clean and mild reaction. SOLUTION: The objective 2(3)-cyclopentadecen-1-one can be produced in high yield by the photooxidation reaction of an enol ether of cyclopentadecanone of formula (I) in an organic solvent in the presence of a photo-sensitizer under UV irradiation while introducing oxygen to the system and the reduction of the obtained hydroperoxide with a reducing agent. The method enables the easy production of 2(3)-cyclopentadecen-1-one from cyclopentadecanone with only two steps under mild condition. The present method provides a route advantageous for the industrial production of muscone important as a fragrant material.
