PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a taking-up core easily and positively capable of ensuring sufficient smoothness on the surface and repolishing it and having sufficient rigidity for rapidly taking up a thin and long material such as film and a sheet. SOLUTION: This taking-up core 10, comprising a core material 11 formed out of a composite material, an uneven surface formed on the surface of the core material, a surface layer 13 formed out of thermosetting resin set covering the uneven surface, and a protection layer 13a formed at the end part of the surface layer and protruded from the end side of the core material, is manufactured by a process wherein the uneven surface is formed positively on the surface of the core material, softened thermoplastic resin is continuously applied over the surface of the core material by passing a plurality of core materials formed with the uneven surfaces through cross dies whose internal surfaces are perfect round and injecting ports are almost close to each other in a broken- line direction of the core materials, the applied thermoplastic resin is set to form the surface layer 13, and the surface layer is cut in a circumferencial direction.
