PURPOSE: To efficiently select carrier discrimination information provided in a carrier for carrying devices in a horizontal type autohandler by eliminating the necessity of stopping the carrier for reading and minimizing the number of sensors for reading the discrimination information. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of timing holes 3 and data holes 4 are punched in a carrier 1 as discrimination information. By detecting the timing holes 3 and the data holes 4 with a timing hole detection sensor 5 and data hole detection sensor 6, respectively while moving the carrier 1, the carrier 1 is discriminated.
