PURPOSE: To provide a novel aminopolyether-modified epoxy capable of imparting flexibility to an electrodeposition coating film while maintaining adhesion and reducing the amount of a solvent used for the electrodeposition coating when incorporated into an electrodeposition coating. CONSTITUTION: The aminopolyether-modified epoxy compound is a reaction product of an aminopolyether represented by the formula: H2H-(CH2)n-(O-CH2- CHR)m-OH, wherein m is an integer of at least 5; R is hydrogen, a methyl or ethyl group; and n is 2 or 3 with a polyglycidyl ether having a mol.wt. of 1,000-7,000 and an epoxy equivalent of 500-3,500, the reaction being carried out with the equivalent ratio of primary amino groups is the aminopolyether to epoxy groups in the polyglycidyl ether set in the range of 0.52-1.0. The cationic electrodeposition coating composition contains a flexible resin comprising the aminopolyether-modified epoxy.
