The ventilation device comprises a gap in the frame (1) or casement (2) with a gap valve mounted over the opening on the inside of the window. An insert (9a, 9b) of elastic noise-damping material fills the space inside the gap and has air passages (10) extending through it in order to allow air to pass through. Prior to fitting inside the gap, the dimensions of the insert are much greater than those of the gap.
