1,026,957. Automatic lathes. A. BECKLER. Nov. 11, 1964 [Nov. 27, 1963], No. 45914/64. Heading B3T. In an automatic lathe having a tool turret mounted on a slide on the lathe bed, the turret 22, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), is positioned with its axis at right angles to the axis of the lathe spindle 3. Bearings 5a and 5b on the slide 5 carry a hollow shaft 6 within which is concentrically mounted a shaft 24 to which the turret 22 is attached. A cam support member 7 secured to the shaft 6 and rotatable therewith carries a cam 15 which is continuously rotated by a worm-wheel 13. The cam 15 is held in cooperation with a follower 19 by a spring 120 so that during the rotation of the cam reciprocation of the turret and slide is effected. Transverse movement of the turret and cutting tools is effected by a cam 17 on the member 7 which actuates a push-rod 34. Indexing of the turret is effected by cam means 33 which rotates with the member 7 and shaft 6 to disengage the latch lever 30. Clutch means 26, 27 permits slipping of the drive for the indexing operation whilst the pawl 30b is engaged on the turret during a machining operation. Selected positioning of the cams permits a variety of sequential movements of the turret to effect required machining operations on a workpiece. |
