PURPOSE: A mobile computer having a function for informing a calibration time of a rechargeable battery and a method for controlling thereof are provided for a user to sense a calibration of a rechargeable battery periodically by automatically sensing a calibration time of the rechargeable battery. CONSTITUTION: If a portable computer is turned on, a booting process by a BIOS is executed(S20). When a specific routine is executed by a CPU for displaying a calibration time, a micro computer inputs calibration displaying information to the CPU(S21). The CPU decides whether the calibration displaying information is '1'. If the calibration displaying information is '1', a reaching of calibration time is informed(S23). If a user executes a calibration function(S25), the micro processor sets calibration displaying information(ACTIVE) and the number of charge time information(C_COUNT) as zero, respectively and stores in an EEPROM. If a rechargeable battery is completely discharged, the portable computer is turned off(S26). If the calibration displaying information is not '1', a booting process is completed and an operating process is operated(S27).
