PURPOSE: To provide an unsaturated transformer, where a voltage which is proportional to the current running through a primary winding is provided to a secondary winding and its configuration is simple, and that is small and inexpensive, and a power-supply device, a discharge lamp device and a compact self-ballasted discharge lamp using this. CONSTITUTION: The end part of the rod portion COa of an open magnetic core CO is provided with a flange part F1, and the primary winding w1 where the both ends are connected to two connection terminals t1, t2 is wound around the rod portion COa, and the secondary winding w2 where the one end is connected to any one of two connection terminals t1, t2 is coupled magnetically by lap winding and wound around the primary winding w1. One of the primary and secondary windings w1, w2 can be made to act as the primary winding, while the other can be made to act as the secondary winding. The core CO can be a drum-type or a rod-type or the like. Two connection terminals t1, t2 can be composed by elongated rods which sandwich a central axis of the flange F1 and are arranged nearly in parallel. Thus, by taping with a means of at least two connection terminals t1, t2, it can be made into taping components for an automatic inserting machine.
