PURPOSE: To provide a high temperature panel heater which is excellent in heat transfer, heat resistance, and durability with reduced thermal distortion even at high temperature, and particularly suitable for its large size application. CONSTITUTION: In a panel heater 1 where a linear power supply heater 4 covered with a sheathing member 3 is buried in a metal panel member 2, a material of any one of the sheathing member and the panel member is alloyed with the other member where both members are formed with materials having substantially equal coefficients of linear expansion. The sheathing member and the panel member are substantially united with diffusion joining under conditions of high temperature and high pressure. The panel member is constructed with an aluminum base composite material with a reduced coefficient of thermal expansion by mixing a reinforcing material such as carbon fibers in aluminum. The sheathing member is constructed with an aluminum alloy. The panel member and the sheathing member are subjected to diffusion joining using high temperature hydrostatic pressure, hot press, and hot casting, etc. The sheathing member and the panel member may be subjected to brazing joining.
