PURPOSE:To surely decrease return light quantity to unrequired reflected light from a substrate end face and to simplify the manufacture of the optical waveguide device by providing the side plane on the light incident side of an optical guidewave inner than the end face on the light incident side of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The end face 2A on the light incident side of the optical waveguide 2 is formed at the side inner than the end face 1A of the substrate 1. In other words, when light from the light source of a laser beam, etc., is coupled with the optical guidewave 2, the focal point P of a lens 16 is positioned at the end face 2A of the optical guidewave 2, not at the end face 1A of the substrate 1, and light Li from the light source 17 is focused on the end face 2A of the optical guidewave 2. Therefore, reflected light Lo from the substrate end face 1A is diverged without being returned to the light source 17 by the lens 16 after being focused on a position Pi symmetric to the focal point P as for the end face 1A, which decreases the return light quantity to the light source 17. Also, it is possible to surely decrease the return light by setting a gap between the end face 2A of the optical waveguide 2 and the end face 1A of the substrate 1 between 50-500mum. |
