PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber cord which does not generate hazardous materials, such as dioxin, in the event of a fire or during an incineration treatment, has good fire-retardance and self-extinguishability and does not impair the extrusion workability and strippability of a coating, the flexibility of a sheath, etc., and an optical fiber cable such optical fiber cord. SOLUTION: The optical fiber cord is constituted by having the sheath 6 comprising a non-halogen fire-retardant polyolefin resin and/or non-halogen fire-retardant polyolefinic thermoplastic elastomer having an oxygen index of >=32 via a tension fiber layer 5 on the outer periphery of a coated optical fiber 1 having a coating 4 comprising a nylon resin and/or nylon-base elastomer containing 10 to 50 wt.% non-halogen flame retarder. The optical fiber cable is constituted by assembling plural pieces of such optical fiber cords and providing the outer periphery thereof with a sheath consisting of the non-halogen fire-retardant polyolefin resin and/or non-halogen fire-retardant polyofinic thermoplastic elastomer.
