PURPOSE: A shadow mask for a cathode ray tube is provided to improve the inferiority of color purity characteristics due to transforming a shadow mask by manufacturing the shadow mask with the slot form and to prevent generation of wrinkles on an effective face. CONSTITUTION: The shadow mask for the cathode ray tube includes a shadow mask(13), an effective surface(13-1), an ineffective surface(13-2) and a slot(13-3) for selecting color. The slot(13-3) with the function of selecting color is formed in the effective surface(13-1). The shadow mask(13) has the ineffective surface(13-2) for being welding and connected to a frame. An external line slot of the shadow mask(13) is composed of a long and thin slot(13-3) of the pipe type, from which the bridges(B) of each slot are removed. The width of the long and thin slot(13-3) of the pipe type is manufactured larger than an inner general slot.
