PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot water heater wherein an anomaly in the supply of hot water can be detected even in a normal heating operation. SOLUTION: In a hot water heater b1, hot water is supplied from a hot water supply apparatus a to a heat-exchanger j for heating. In an initial heating operation of the heater b1, time is detected which is required for raising the temperature of hot water flowing into the heat exchanger j to a predetermined temperature, and the detected temperature is stored. In a normal heating operation, time is detected which is required for raising the temperature of hot water flowing into the heat exchanger j to a predetermined temperature under the condition that another hot water heater b2 is not operated. An anomaly in the supply of hot water to the heat exchanger is detected by comparing the required time stored in the initial heating operation with the required time for the normal operation.
