PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear compressor high efficient with a small heating loss, by suppressing heat transmitted to refrigerant gas from a high temperature linear motor part and delivery side head cover surrounding a cylinder part. SOLUTION: This linear compressor is constituted by a cylinder part 10, a piston part 20, a linear motor part 100 making the piston part 20 generate thrust by a movable part 40 and a fixed part 50, a suction delivery mechanism part 60 having a valve plate 45 and a cylinder head cover 60, a spring mechanism part 70, a support mechanism part 90, etc. A hollowly provided part 17 and a groove 23 are provided in an external peripheral surface of the cylinder part 10, a gas layer 15 is formed between itself and an internal peripheral surface of the fixed part 50 in the linear motor part 100, so as to lighten heating of a compression chamber 68 with heat from the linear motor part 100 transmitted in a wall surface of the cylinder part 10, by reducing a receiving heat loss to refrigerant gas in a stroke of compression and suction, improvement of compression efficiency and volumetric efficiency can be attained.
