PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a beam splitter arranging method and an optical measuring instrument capable of improving the contrast of an image, and also, preventing the occurrence of a false image. SOLUTION: As for an automatic collimator 1, the beam splitter 6 is arranged on an optical axis A where the light source light I1 emitted from a light source 3 propagates so that the surfaces 61 and 62 may be inclined only by a prescribed angleα1 with reference to an axis C which is orthogonal to the optical axis A. The prescribed angleα1 is set within the extent of 1 deg. to 7 deg.. Unnecessary light caused by the internal reflection of the beam splitter 6 propagates toward a direction different from the direction of an eyepiece 8, and only the measuring light M1 returned from the object to be measured reaches the eyepiece 8.
