PURPOSE: A method for self-diagnosis of an optical disk driver is provided for the optical disk driver to diagnose operation of the optical disk driver without using an external component or a driving program. CONSTITUTION: By apply power to an optical disk driver, a microcomputer decides a self-diagnosis mode according to establishment of mater pin and a slave pin. In case of a closed state of a tray, the microcomputer opens and closes the tray for deciding normal operation. In case of an ROM disk for the optical disk, recording data on a data track are repeatedly read. By generation of an error in reading the data, the microcomputer opens the tray for reporting an error. In case of normal operation of reading data, the microcomputer outputs a digital audio data through a headphone terminal. In case of generation of an error in outputting the audio data, the tray is opened to report the error. By normal completion of reproducing the audio data, the microcomputer performs a power reset operation.
