PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling remote screen saving in a data communication network are provided by which a subscriber's terminal is on-line connected to an operation server at every setting time and specific information the subscriber terminal requests is provided as screen saver data of the terminal to allow the subscriber to be able to receive information he wants to get even when the terminal is in idle state. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for remotely controlling screen saving in a data communication network includes a plurality of subscriber terminals(100), an operator and a plurality of information providers(400a-400n). The subscriber terminals set, register and execute a remote screen saving function and request information update through a data communication medium(200). The operator provides information selected by a subscriber terminal as a screen saver data of the corresponding subscriber terminal in response to a screen saver setting request from the subscriber terminal. The information providers are connected to the operator through the data communication medium when the subscriber terminal requests information update to provide information the subscriber terminal wants as the screen saver data.
