PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an empty container collection type vending machine which performs a stable, highly efficient and fast compression operation while preventing a container jam, drastically expands a container housing space and makes the exchange/collection work of a storing part efficient. SOLUTION: This vending machine is provided with an internal or external empty container collection device. The empty container collection device is provided with a container insertion inlet opened at the front and/or side of the vending machine, a compressing device which is installed on the downstream side of the container insertion inlet and compresses an inserted empty container by a compression board and a toggle mechanism facing each other and a storing part housing the compressed empty container. The container collection device is provided on the inside or outside of the vending machine so that the depth of the vending machine can be longer than the width of the vending machine.
