PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video camera with high reliability that can record video images with high quality in spite of a small-sized mechanism. SOLUTION: The video camera configured to record a video image onto an optical recording medium is provided with a photographing optical system 1, an image pickup means 2 that converts an image of an object formed by the photographing optical system 1 into an electric video signal, a recording means that records the video signal to a rotary optical recording medium capable of optical recording, a mode changeover means that brings a camera into a photographing mode, a setting means that brings the camera into a photographing enabling state, and a trigger means to start the photographing recording when the camera is brought into the photographing enabling state.
