PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a card from being illegally taken-out even in a state where a shutter is not closed. SOLUTION: The card reader 1 is constituted by providing the freely opening/ closing possible shutter 4 for permitting a card 3 to be taken into the card reader 1 at a card insertion port 2 and by taking the card 3 to the inside of the card reader 1 when the card 3 is normal one to perform a prescribed processing. The card reader 1 is provided with a preventing mechanism 6 having a preventing part 5 for preventing the movement of the card 3 within the range of the length of the card 3 from the shutter 4 so that the mechanism 6 is operated when the abnormal stop of the card 3 is detected when the shutter 4 is at an open position to prevent the movement of the card 3 by the part 5.
